Video Lesson: Information Functions in Excel

In the following lesson I go through the Experience Level 1 Information Functions.  These functions are used to obtain information about formatting & referencing about specific cell or range references.  In this lesson I review the following functions:

ISBLANK – ISERROR – ISTEXT – ISNONTEXT – ISNUMBER

as well as the following info_types of the CELL() function:

“address” – “row” – “col” – “contents” – “width” – “filename”

“color” – “prefix” – “protect” – “type” – “format”

The CELL(“format”) info_type has many code results, so I’ve summarized them here:

Make sure to download the latest Master Workbook to follow along with the video lesson.

  1. Thank you for the video. The content is really nice. Just one feedback, your voice in these videos is hard to listen to because it is low and cracking. But again, thanks for the videos!! They are helping me a lot 🙂

  2. I am not sure I understand the code box to the right of the =iserror, =isnumber etc. in this tutorial. How do I use these formulas (e.g. =code(“D2”).

  3. I’m not sure if I’m blind or not, but I didn’t see this in the Master Workbook. The version in the video is in 2012 and version I downloaded is 2013. Not sure if it got deleted in that time.

    • Never mind, I am blind and found it. I didn’t look at the drop down box next to each of the categories.
